CLAYTON -- The driver who was killed after his car collided with a tree during a police chase Friday morning was identified by authorities late Saturday.

Clayton resident Weston Tanner, 21, was driving a Lexus sedan that was reported stolen out of Concord when he allegedly led Contra Costa County Sheriff's deputies on a roughly 7-mile chase Friday from Walnut Boulevard and Camino Diablo in Brentwood to the Clayton Regency Mobile Home Park on Marsh Creek Road, according to sheriff's office spokesman Jimmy Lee.

Tanner crashed the Lexus into a tree around 8:30 a.m. and was pronounced dead at the scene. Two other passengers in the car were flown to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek, where they remained Saturday night. An update on their conditions was not available, and they remain unidentified by police.

Lee said Friday that deputies initially responded to reports of a suspicious car near Walnut Boulevard and Camino Diablo around 8 a.m. and when one of the deputies tried to approach the car, Tanner took off, leading to the chase.
