Knights win tournament

  • Kim Johnson scored six goals to lead the Las Lomas High girls water polo team past St. Mary's-Stockton 9-7 to win the championship at the Napa Julian Szmidt Memorial Tournament on Oct. 26. Johnson had seven goals in a 12-8 semifinal victory over Vintage-Napa. Las Lomas also beat Amador Valley, Oak Ridge-El Dorado Hills and Granite Bay at the tournament.

    Spartans cruising

  • The De La Salle High football team improved to 8-0 on the season with an easy 63-14 victory over Amador Valley on Oct. 25. The Spartans made an effort to improve their passing game and quarterback Chris Williams responded by completing 9 of 13 passes for 126 yards and two touchdowns. The Spartans, who next travel to Monte Vista at 7 p.m. on Nov. 1, led 42-7 at halftime.

    Mats take team title

  • Led by Arielle Caronna's third place individual finish, the Miramonte High girls golf team won the North Coast Section Division II team championship on Oct. 21. Caronna fired an 82 and the Matadors' shot 360 as a team to easily beat second-place Justin-Siena of Napa. Miramonte qualified for the NCS Division I Tournament of Champions with their victory at McKinleyville's Beau Pre Golf Course.

    Cougars improve to 8-0

  • The Campolindo High football team got one step closer to a third consecutive Diablo Foothill Athletic League title with a 41-15 win over Alhambra on Oct. 25. Andrew Zolintakis threw for 286 yards and three touchdowns while six different Cougars scored in the victory. The Cougars, who are 8-0 overall, can clinch at least a share of the DFAL title with a win over Dougherty Valley on Nov. 1.

  • Concord at Clayton Valley Charter, football, Nov. 1, 7 p.m. -- Concord will try wrestle the ClayCord Cup from the rival Eagles, who took the trophy last year with a 49-6 win.

  • Las Lomas at Miramonte, football, Nov. 1, 7 p.m. -- The Knights and Matadors have already clinched playoff eligibility and are tied for second place in DFAL play behind Campolindo.

  • NCS seeding, water polo, Nov. 3, noon -- North Coast Section brackets in boys and girls water polo will be announced around midday. Miramonte is the defending Division I boys champion while the Campolindo girls are reigning Division II winners.

  • NorCal championships, girls golf, Nov. 4, a.m. -- Ripon Golf and Country Club serves as the site of the Northern California championships, featuring the region's top young female golfers.

  • Ana Boeriu, Northgate girls tennis -- Boeriu won the Diablo Valley Athletic League singles title with her 6-1, 6-2 win over Berean Christian's Gabby Nobili in the Oct. 25 finals.

  • David Kessler, Las Lomas boys water polo -- Kessler's five goals helped the Knights upend Miramonte 13-10 in Diablo Foothill Athletic League action on Oct. 23 and create a three-way tie atop the league standings.

  • MacKenzie Draper, Concord girls volleyball -- A monster game from Draper, which included 11 aces, 29 assists, 7 digs and 3 kills, helped the Minutemen to a 25-13, 25-23, 23-25, 25-21 win over Clayton Valley Charter in DVAL play on Oct. 24.

  • Will Fuller and Dominic Paoletti, Miramonte football -- Fuller caught two touchdowns and returned a punt 50 yards for another score while Paoletti caught seven passes for 119 yards and two TDs in the Matadors' 55-24 win over Dougherty Valley on Oct. 25.

  • Kristen Hong, Miramonte girls water polo -- Hong scored nine goals and had two assists in the Matadors' 17-7 win over Las Lomas on Oct. 23.

  • Ray Jackson, College Park football -- The sophomore running back rushed for 194 yards on 21 carries, including touchdown runs of 80 and 7 yards, in the Falcons' 35-26 victory over Concord on Oct. 25.

  • Sierra Stratton, College Park girls volleyball -- Stratton had 15 kills and 20 digs to help the Falcons beat Berean Christian 25-19, 25-21, 20-25, 25-23 on Oct. 24 to improve to 6-5 in DVAL play.
