DVAL cross country crowns winners

  • The College Park High boys and Northgate girls won team titles at the Diablo Valley Athletic League championships on Nov. 2 at Castle Rock Park. The Falcons' boys team placed four runners in the top 10 to win their fourth league title in the past six years. Northgate's girls won a league title for the first time since 1994. College Park's Jamie Busby won the girls race in 21:43, tying a record for the 3.3-mile course. The boys race was won by Ygnacio Valley's Jorge Bernabe-Velasquez, who finished in 18:17.

    Broncos win DVAL tournament

  • Northgate's boys water polo team won the DVAL tournament title with its 11-9 victory over Clayton Valley Charter in the championship game on Nov. 2. The Broncos, who were led by Brayden Levy's four goals, avenged a loss to Clayton Valley from the regular season. Calvin Kirkpatrick and Michael Wardle added three goals each for the Broncos in the title game.

    Streak ends for DVC

  • The Diablo Valley College football team had its three-game winning streak snapped with a 24-21 overtime defeat to Siskiyous on Nov. 2. Siskiyous kicked a 32-yard field goal in overtime following a Vikings interception. Adam Wood passed for 277 yards and a touchdown in the loss.

    Cougars win DFAL title

  • The Campolindo High girls water polo team captured the Diablo Foothill Athletic League title and took second place at the NorCal Invitational to cap the regular season. After beating Acalanes 14-4 to finish off the league title, the Cougars beat Menlo, Miramonte and St. Francis-Mountain View at the NorCal tournament before losing to San Ramon Valley 11-8 in the title game. Campolindo is the No. 1 seed in the North Coast Section Division II playoffs.

  • California at De La Salle, football, Nov. 8, 7 p.m. -- The Spartans will look to wrap up another undefeated regular season when the Grizzlies, coached by De La Salle alum Eric Billeci, come to Owen Owens Field.

  • Clayton Valley Charter at Northgate, football, Nov. 8, 7 p.m. -- The Broncos can force a tie for the DVAL championship if it can pull off a win over the defending champion Eagles.

  • NCS quarterfinals, water polo, Nov. 9, TBA -- Action heats up in the NCS boys and girls water polo playoffs with spots in the semifinals at stake. The boys Division I tournament is especially intriguing.

  • DFAL championships, cross country, Nov. 9, 1 p.m. -- The DFAL will hold its championship race at Shadow Cliffs Park in Pleasanton. Campolindo is the team to beat in both the boys and girls divisions.

    Stars of the week

  • Lauren Fitterer, Las Lomas volleyball -- Fitterer helped the Knights to wins over Dougherty Valley and Acalanes during the week of Oct. 28. She had 14 kills, six aces and 12 digs in a four-game win over Dougherty Valley on Oct. 29.

  • Eric Haynes and Kyle Austin, Northgate football -- Haynes, a senior running back, rushed for 189 yards and four touchdowns on 20 carries and Austin completed 7 of 9 passes for 212 yards to lead the Broncos to a 49-14 win over College Park on Nov. 1.

  • Drew Anderson, Miramonte football -- The Matadors' senior quarterback went 24 of 37 for 372 yards, five touchdowns and two interceptions in a 42-21 win over Las Lomas on Nov. 1.
