Matadors advance to final

  • The Miramonte High football team will play for the North Coast Section Division II championship after knocking off defending champion Clayton Valley Charter 44-38 in the Nov. 29 semifinals. QB Drew Anderson threw for 339 yards and three touchdowns while Ray Clark rushed for 112 yards and two scores.

    Acalanes' von Ebbe fourth at NCS

  • Acalanes High's Isabella von Ebbe reached the North Coast Section Division I semifinals in girls tennis before falling to eventual champion Allison Chuang of Albany 6-1, 6-2 on Nov. 25. von Ebbe beat Alameda's Ebone Qualls in the first round and Petaluma's Maddie Thomas in the quarterfinals. She then fell to James Logan's Mercedes Le in a hard-fought third place match 6-7(7-3), 6-1, 6-3.

    Cougars season ends in NorCals

  • Campolindo High's girls volleyball team had its season come to an end with a 23-25, 26-24, 25-11, 25-21 loss to Christian Brothers-Sacramento in the first round of the NorCal Division III tournament on Nov. 26. The Cougars, who lost a five-game thriller to Bishop O'Dowd in the NCS Division III finals, finish the year with a 25-10 record.

  • Chris Vontoure Spartan Classic, boys basketball, Dec 5-7, times TBA. -- De La Salle opens its 26th annual tournament by taking on Clayton Valley Charter on Dec. 5 at 6:30 p.m.

  • Lady Bulldog Classic, girls basketball, Dec. 6-7, TBA -- Alhambra hosts its annual girls basketball tournament that helps kick off the season for many teams.

  • NCS Division II championship, football, Dec. 7, 7 p.m. -- Miramonte travels to the North Bay to take on top seeded Casa Grande-Petaluma for the Division II section title. The game is at Rancho Cotate High in Rohnert Park.

  • NCS Division I championship, football, Dec. 7, 7:30 p.m. -- De La Salle goes for its 22nd consecutive North Coast Section crown, facing No. 3 California at Dublin High.

    Stars of the week

  • Chloe Hansel, Las Lomas girls cross country -- The sophomore led the Knights to a fifth place team finish in the Division III state championship race by taking fourth individually with a time of 18:09 on the 3.1-mile course in Fresno on Nov. 30.

  • Drew Anderson, Miramonte football -- The Matadors QB continued his stellar postseason, completing 27 of 38 passes for 339 yards and three touchdowns in Miramonte's 44-38 NCS Division II semifinal win over Clayton Valley Charter on Nov. 29.

  • Aidan Goltra, Campolindo boys cross country -- The senior raced to his second consecutive Division III state championship, edging two runners at the finish to win in 15:02 on the 3.1-mile Woodward Park-Fresno course on Nov. 30.

  • Miles Harrison, Clayton Valley Charter football -- The Eagles' junior running back rushed for 237 yards and three touchdowns on 33 carries, but couldn't quite carry his team to victory. Clayton Valley Charter lost to Miramonte 44-38 in the NCS Division II semifinals.

  • Sumner Houston, De La Salle football -- The two-way lineman had 12 tackles and 2.5 sacks in the Spartans' 57-27 victory over Deer Valley in the NCS Division I semifinals on Nov. 29. He also helped pave the way for the Spartans to rush for 373 yards.

  • Kayla Taylor, Clayton Valley Charter girls basketball -- Taylor's double-double (23 points, 11 rebounds) helped the Eagles to a 73-34 season-opening win over Freedom on Nov. 30.
