Everett Michael Louie, son of
Dorene Soe and David Louie of Walnut Creek, has been awarded the rank of Eagle Scout. His accomplishment was celebrated in a Court of Honor May 28 at Foothill Middle School. Louis is a member of Troop 810; his Scoutmaster is
Dr. Richard Cue.
For his Eagle Project, the 18-year-old Everett installed new planter boxes in Walnut Acres Day Care Center's vegetable garden area. He lead a team of Boy Scouts through the construction of four 5-by-9- foot planter boxes made of redwood and installed a much-needed automatic underground irrigation system.
Louie graduated from Northgate High School and is a freshman at UC Santa Cruz.
Matthew Douglas Torbett from Boy Scout Troop 317 received his Eagle Scout award at his National Court of Honor Jan. 4 at King's Valley Christian School in Concord. His Scoutmaster is
For his Eagle Scout Community service project, Torbett led a team constructing ten nesting boxes for the American kestrel, the smallest raptor in North America. Seven boxes were donated to the educational program for Native Bird Connections of Martinez and three were installed on the Eagle Peak Elementary School campus in Walnut Creek to help control ground squirrel populations using natural predators while maintaining a pesticide-free campus.
Torbett is a senior at Northgate High School and the son of
Kevin and Teresa Torbett of Walnut Creek.
