DLS' Ladouceur honored

  • Former De La Salle High football coach Bob Ladouceur is part of a five-member class set to be inducted into the Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame. Ladouceur guided the Spartans for 34 years, including their 151-game win streak, before retiring from head coaching after the 2012 season. He remains a teacher at De La Salle and an assistant with the football team. The new inductees will be enshrined on May 7.

    Knights complete strong week

  • Las Lomas High's girls soccer team earned two Diablo Foothill Athletic League wins to earn a place in the upper half of the league standings. Gabrielle Brown, Kathryn August and Caitlin McLeoud all scored in a 3-1 win over Dougherty Valley on Feb. 5. Then Megan Delaporta scored on an August assist to lift the Knights past Acalanes on Feb. 7 and move to 4-3-3 in DFAL play.

    Eagles stay on track

  • The Clayton Valley Charter High girls basketball team took another step towards the Diablo Valley Athletic League title with a 67-46 win over Northgate on Feb. 7. Kayla Taylor had a double-double (19 points, 10 rebounds) to help the Eagles improve to 9-0 in league play. Hailey Pascoe added 18 points.

    Miramonte tops in DFAL

  • The Miramonte High girls soccer team won its seventh straight game to surge ahead of Campolindo for the Diablo Foothill Athletic League lead to start the week of Feb. 10. Megan Reid scored five goals in two games as the Matadors beat Alhambra (2-0) and Dublin (6-0). Miramonte has also played some lockdown defense with four straight shutout wins.

  • Northgate at Concord, boys basketball, Feb. 14, 7 p.m. -- A couple teams vying for second place in the DVAL get together as the regular season begins to wind down.

  • NCS team duals, boys wrestling, Feb. 15, all day -- De La Salle is always a contender in the team duals, which kick off the wrestling postseason. Competition in Division I and Division II will be held at Dougherty Valley High.

  • NCS championships, girls wrestling, Feb. 15, all day -- The section's best girls wrestlers meet at Pittsburg High to determine NCS champions and state qualifiers.

  • NCS seeding meeting, soccer, Feb. 16, noon -- The North Coast Section tournament brackets in boys and girls soccer will be announced around midday at cifncs.org.

    Stars of the week

  • Matt Nerland and Ben Wood, Las Lomas boys basketball -- Nerland hit 8 3-pointers and scored 36 points while Wood added 26 points and 15 rebounds, but the Knights still couldn't handle Campolindo and lost 80-70 on Feb. 7.

  • Matias Cassino, Las Lomas boys soccer -- Cassino continued his recent hot streak, scoring twice in a four minute span to lift the Knights over Acalanes 2-1 on Feb. 7.

  • Devin Asiasi, De La Salle boys basketball -- The sophomore guard scored 18 points to help the Spartans avoid an upset bid by Amador Valley and earn a 48-47 road win on Feb. 7.

  • Rod Deichler, Campolindo boys soccer -- Deichler scored both of the Cougars' goals in a 2-1 win over Acalanes on Feb. 5. His 29th minute goal proved to be the game-winner and kept Campolindo at the top of the DFAL standings.

  • Angelo Gastello, Alhambra boys soccer -- He scored twice to lift the Bulldogs to a 2-0 win over Dougherty Valley on Feb. 7.
