Knights second at NCS duals

  • The Las Lomas High wrestling team advanced to the North Coast Section Division II dual meet championship, but lost to Livermore 43-27 in the final. Bobby Caldwell (126 pounds), Robby Baker (132) and Nymbat Nazarob (138) all won by pin to highlight the Knights' effort against the Cowboys. Las Lomas now prepares for the Feb. 22 Diablo Foothill Athletic League championships, where individual champions will be crowned.

    Spartans fall in dual final

  • The De La Salle High wrestling team had its streak of five straight North Coast Section Division I dual championships come to end with a 34-22 loss to James Logan during the Feb. 15 final at Dougherty Valley. Logan was strong in the heavyweights to defeat the Spartans. De La Salle was led by Nathan Cervantes, who recorded a pin at 135 pounds. The Spartans will now focus on the Feb. 22 East Bay Athletic League championships.

    Falcons earn DVAL title

  • College Park High's girls soccer team won the Diablo Valley Athletic League title in convincing fashion. The Falcons went 12-0 against league opponents while allowing only four total goals to DVAL foes all season. Jacquelyn Scharff scored for the Falcons as they finished the regular season with a 1-0 win over Clayton Valley Charter on Feb. 13. Junior goalie Katie McLaughlin anchors the Falcons' sound defense. College Park earned the No. 4 seed in the North Coast Section Division I playoffs and a first-round date with No. 13 American on Feb. 19.

  • DFAL tournament, wrestling, Feb. 22, 9 a.m. -- League champions will be crowned at Acalanes High.

  • California at Carondelet, girls basketball, Feb. 21, 7 p.m. -- With the EBAL title already wrapped up, the Cougars will celebrate their seniors in their final regular season game.

  • NCS playoffs, soccer, Feb. 22 -- Quarterfinal matches in the boys and girls divisions will be played at home site of the highest seeded team in each pairing.

  • NCS seeding meeting, basketball, Feb. 23 -- Playoff brackets will be released in boys and girls basketball on the North Coast Section website (www.cifncs.org).

    Stars of the week

  • Sean Babinski, Northgate boys soccer -- Babinski kept a clean sheet through two DVAL games, a 1-0 win over Mt. Diablo on Feb. 11 and a 0-0 tie with Concord on Feb. 13.

  • Breanna Alford, Miramonte girls basketball -- The senior scored 15 points and pulled down an incredible 32 rebounds as the Matadors cruised past Dougherty Valley 78-19 on Feb. 13.

  • Ryan Donat, Campolindo boys soccer -- Donat scored both goals as the Cougars clinched the Diablo Foothill Athletic League title with a 2-0 win over Dublin on Feb. 11.

  • Isaih Hood, Bentley boys basketball -- The freshman forward scored 18 points in a 71-59 win over College Prep on Feb. 13.

  • Ben Krauth, Diablo Valley baseball -- The Northgate graduate pitched 71/3 strong innings to lead the Vikings past Los Medanos 3-1 in a Feb. 15 nonconference game. He struck out six.

  • Megan Reid, Miramonte girls basketball -- The senior scored two goals to lift the Matadors to a 2-0 victory over Campolindo in their final DFAL game on Feb. 13.

  • Jacquelyn Scharff, College Park girls soccer -- The junior forward scored two of the Falcons' three goals during the week of Feb. 10 to help the team close out DVAL play with a 12-0 record.
