WALNUT CREEK -- Police were searching Monday for a man with a hatchet who robbed a 7-Eleven store late Sunday night.

The robbery occurred around 11 p.m. at the store in the 300 block of N. Civic Drive, police said. A man with a white T-shirt or towel over his face and armed with a hatchet took money from the register and then fled in a newer, four-door vehicle, police said.

The suspect was described by police as a white man in his mid- to late 20s, approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall with a medium build. He was wearing a white T-shirt and bluejeans, police said.

The employee working at the 7-Eleven was not injured.
