The Alamo Run, sponsored by the Mount Diablo Peace and Justice Center, will be held from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Sunday, June 22, beginning at 3189 Danville Blvd. in downtown Alamo.

The Walnut Creek Aquanuts, according to its website, is a world-renowned synchronized swim club based in Northern California, organized to develop athletes from novice to elite, building both bodies and minds and instilling skills that will serve swimmers throughout their lifetime.
Over its 45-year history, the organization has trained more than 30 Olympic athletes and garnered more than 200 national and world competition titles. The Aquanuts is a volunteer-run, nonprofit organization, with a roster of over 100 athletes ranging in age from 6-21, and in ability from novice to Olympic hopeful.
The Walnut Creek Aquanuts Celebration of Champions and Duck Derby will celebrate Walnut Creek's centennial, athletes, and the rich history of the Walnut Creek Aquanuts.
Doors open at 3 p.m. for food, drinks and shopping, and the show begins at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, June 14, at Heather Farm Park Clarke Swim Center, 1750 Heather Drive in Walnut Creek.
Guest performances will include the U.S. National Synchronized Swim Team, and 2012 Olympian Mariya Koroleva.
The Duck Derby, Heads & Tail Game, and a live auction will be held during intermission. Win cash prizes or an iPad Mini. Tickets include one duck derby ticket. The cost is $20 for adults, $10 for ages 5-12, and $15 for seniors over age 62.

More than 120 Girl Scouts recently took part in a "Try It" day with the Walnut Creek Aquanuts to share the sport of synchronized swimming.
Each Girl Scout learned basic synchronized swimming figures and were able to put together mini routines by the end of the session. They earned a badge for their performance and were able to take home a Walnut Creek Aquanuts swim cap.

Concord's devotion to urban landscaping was reaffirmed on Earth Day, April 22, when Concord Mayor Tim Grayson and the City Council recognized the long service of the Concord Garden Club as the founder of the city's memorial tree planting program.
The council also adopted an official policy to provide city oversight and a consistent approach to requests from the public for not only memorial trees but other commemorative items in public places as well, such as benches and plaques.
In 1968, the City Council approved the launching of the Concord Women's Garden Club's memorial tree planting program. The first tree, a eucalyptus, was planted on June 1, 1968, in Willow Pass Park. Since that time, a total of 396 trees have been planted by club members.
The City Council presented Phyllis Wanamaker with a special commendation as the longtime coordinator of the memorial tree program. Wanamaker alone coordinated the planting of 192 of the 396 trees, beginning in 1989.
"I commend Phyllis Wanamaker for her tireless work with the Concord Garden Club to make the Memorial Tree Planting Program such a great success, providing all those trees in our parks to be enjoyed by residents for years to come," said Mayor Grayson.
The Concord Garden Club also collaborated with the Concord Trees Committee to establish the Markham Regional Arboretum Society.
