Knights earn split

  • The Las Lomas High boys basketball team split its first two Diablo Foothill Athletic League games of the season. The Knights beat Miramonte 64-49 on Jan. 7 behind Ben Wood's 19 points and 10 rebounds. But they couldn't keep up with Dublin in a 83-70 loss on Jan. 9.

    Still no losses for Dons

  • The Acalanes High boys soccer team had its winning streak snapped, but the Dons are still unbeaten on the season after tying Campolindo and Ygnacio Valley in successive matches. Max Mirner scored in a 1-1 tie with Ygnacio Valley on Jan. 12 while goalkeeper Eric Rogstad and the Dons' defense keyed a 0-0 tie with Campolindo on Jan. 11.

    Eagles earn key win

  • The Clayton Valley Charter High girls soccer team handed College Park its first Diablo Valley Athletic League loss of the season when Kimber Searle connected on a 78th minute goal. Amanda Forbes assisted the late score that resulted in a 1-0 Clayton Valley victory. College Park brought an eight-game unbeaten streak into the game.

    Bulldogs top Matadors

  • The Alhambra High boys soccer team closed out the first half of Diablo Foothill Athletic League play with a 3-1 victory over Miramonte on Jan. 9. The Bulldogs built a 3-0 lead by the 56th minute on goals by Jesus Maldonado, John Billecci and Dominic Weir to improve to 6-5-3 overall.

  • Campolindo at Dublin, girls basketball, Jan. 18, 5:30 p.m. -- The Cougars and Gaels have emerged as two of the better teams in the DFAL and will get together for a key early season matchup.

  • Cosumnes River at Diablo Valley College, women's basketball, Jan. 18, 5:30 p.m. -- As part of a doubleheader with the men's team, the Viking women will be looking for a home win in Big 8 play.

  • Berean Christian at Northgate, boys basketball, Jan. 18, 7 p.m. -- Both teams are in search of a much-needed victory in league play.

  • MLK Classic, boys basketball, Jan. 21, all day -- De La Salle will use Haas Pavilion in Berkeley to host six boys basketball games on MLK Day. The Spartans play Salesian at 5:45 p.m. in one of the more enticing matchups.

  • Madi West, Berean Christian girls basketball -- West totaled 49 points and 19 rebounds in two DVAL games, a 51-14 win over Ygnacio Valley on Jan. 11 and a 72-44 loss to College Park on Jan. 8.

  • Ben Wood, Las Lomas boys basketball -- Wood's 19 points and 11 rebound led the Knights to a 64-49 win over Miramonte in their DFAL opener on Jan. 7.

  • Mike Harris, Diablo Valley College men's basketball -- The Vikings are off to a slow start with two losses in Big 8 play despite 34 points in two games by the Monte Vista graduate.

  • Thomas Lisiak, De La Salle boys soccer -- Lisiak had a goal and two assists to help the Spartans win games against Granada and Livermore during the week of Jan. 7.

  • Kyla Miller, College Park girls basketball -- The sophomore forward's 30 points and 14 rebounds propelled the Falcons to a 72-44 victory over Berean Christian on Jan. 8.

  • Megan Reid, Miramonte girls basketball and soccer -- The junior made big plays for the soccer and basketball teams. She had 11 steals and seven points in a 79-48 basketball win over Campolindo on Jan. 11 to go along with three goals and an assist in a 5-2 soccer win over Alhambra on Jan. 9.

  • Kayla Taylor, Clayton Valley girls basketball -- The junior's 17 points in a 64-35 win over Northgate on Jan. 8 kept the Eagles unbeaten in DVAL play.

  • Matt Thomas, Acalanes boys basketball -- The junior poured in 19 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Dons to a thrilling 55-52 home win over Dougherty Valley on Jan. 11.
