Knights earn dual meet title

  • The Las Lomas High wrestling team captured its second North Coast Section Division II dual meet championship in the last three seasons by topping Albany 39-22 in the finals on Feb. 9. The Knights dominated the middleweights to earn the title. Next up for the Knights is the Diablo Foothill Athletic League championships, which will be held Feb. 16 at Miramonte.

    Falcons capture DVAL title

  • The College Park High girls soccer team won the Diablo Valley Athletic League title by finishing up the regular season with a 2-1 win over Clayton Valley on Feb. 5. The win avenged the Falcons' only league loss of the season as they finished 11-1. Jessica Jordan scored both goals for the Falcons in the first half. College Park earned the No. 6 seed in the North Coast Section Division I playoffs, drawing a first-round game with No. 11 Heritage on Feb. 13. Results were not available at press time.

    DLS' Allocco gets milestone win

  • De La Salle High boys basketball coach Frank Allocco celebrated his 600th career victory in a 64-29 romp over Livermore on Feb. 8. Allocco began coaching at Northgate High before moving over to De La Salle in 1997. His teams have won three state championships. Senior guard Michael Inman hit five 3-pointers and had 17 points to lead the Spartans in Allocco's milestone victory.

    Matadors cruising

  • The Miramonte High girls basketball team won a second straight Diablo Foothill Athletic League title and remained undefeated against league foes with wins over Campolindo, Alhambra and Dougherty Valley last week. All three victories were blowouts with the closest being a 80-43 home win over second-place Campolindo on Feb. 4. The Matadors will learn their North Coast Section Division III playoff seeding on Feb. 18.

  • NCS playoffs, soccer, Feb. 16, times TBA -- Second-round matchups will take place in Division I and Division II with the winners advancing to the Feb. 20 semifinals.

  • DFAL championships, wrestling, Feb.16, all day -- Wrestlers will face off at Miramonte High for spots in the upcoming NCS championships.

  • NCS seeding, basketball, Feb. 17, noon -- Brackets for the boys and girls playoffs will be announced on the NCS website at cifncs.org. Teams should learn their playoff fate around early afternoon.

  • NCS playoffs, basketball, Feb. 19, times TBA -- First-round NCS playoff games begin for the top three divisions.

    Stars of the week

  • Jason Braden, Berean Christian boys basketball -- Braden scored a total of 48 points in wins over Mt. Diablo and Ygnacio Valley last week. The junior also had 16 assists and 17 rebounds in the victories.

  • Madison Casten, Northgate girls basketball -- The sophomore hit three 3-pointers and had 17 points to lead the Broncos to a 72-49 win over Northgate on Feb. 8.

  • Brian Goins, Cal State San Bernardino men's basketball -- The Concord native who also went to DVC was named California Collegiate Athletic Association Player of the Week after averaging 21 points to help the Coyotes go 1-1 last week.

  • Joey Goodreault, Miramonte boys basketball -- Goodreault had a steal and game-winning basket with 4.8 seconds left to lift the Matadors to a 68-67 win over Campolindo on Feb. 4. Goodreault had 15 points and five assists in the thrilling win.

  • Annelise Ito, Diablo Valley women's basketball -- The Campolindo High graduate had 21 points and 12 rebounds to guide the Vikings to an upset win over Santa Rosa, 53-47, on Feb. 8.

  • Andrew Konstantino, De La Salle boys soccer -- A day after signing his letter of intent to Saint Mary's, the Spartans' goalkeeper played well in a 2-0 victory over California that secured the EBAL title.

  • Hailey Pascoe, Clayton Valley girls basketball -- The sophomore scored a team-high 17 points to lead the Eagles past second-place College Park 66-47 on Feb. 8 to clinch the DVAL title.

  • Megan Reid, Miramonte girls soccer -- The junior scored three goals with one assist last week to lift the Matadors to wins over Alhambra and Miramonte, helping them secure the No. 4 seed in the NCS Division II playoffs.
