Additives can increase emissions
In 1995 I moved with my business, to Arizona, to avoid the incredible taxes of California. Now retired, I'm back, only because of my children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
What I find incredible is the continuance of the 50-cents-a-gallon gasoline tax, voted in, in 1993 through an initiative, by a bunch of ignorant people, claiming this would "help" the poor.
At that time, my sales business required 60,000 plus miles of driving per year.
Now with the poor economy, high unemployment, coming new taxes and elimination of many tax deductions, Why, why hasn't any effort been made to eliminate this abominable tax on the working class and the poor? I might also add, that using California gasoline I now get 14.6 mpg, when Arizona gasoline gave me 25 mpg. Give the people some relief and drop the excessive tax.
Get rid of this 50-cent tax, and stop using all these additives in gasoline that lower MPG and actually increase the emissions.
Which plastic bags can we recycle?
First of all, let's talk plastic bags. We all use them and I, for one, try to recycle them at the ubiquitous supermarket on a regular basis. Maybe I've had my head in the sand but I'm not sure what bags can be recycled. Obviously, the bag used to carry your groceries
When you order some deli meat that goes into a plastic bag, it's slapped with a sticky note with the price, weight and content. Can you recycle that bag? Do you have to take off the sticky note? How about the black garbage bags -- can they be recycled? I'm sure we would all like to know the answers and also what the supermarket does with the bags. That might encourage us to collect and return our bags. Any help would be appreciated.
Now on to composting. I'm not sure if we all have small canisters for food detritus, bones, etc. but we do in our neighborhood. We are encouraged to place such waste in the green garbage can for collection on the regular garbage day. I see very few green cans on the street -- maybe no one else has garbage, but at this time of the year there is not much tree trimming going on. Maybe you need to get the word out again. I wrap my waste in the newspaper, making sure that I use only the black and white pages, no color.
Now, don't get me started about line drying your laundry!
