A Mill Valley man was arrested on allegations of trying to rip out a man's eye during an argument.
Adam Peter York, 24, was booked on suspicion of mayhem and battery causing serious bodily injury. The district attorney's office filed a felony battery charge against York but not a charge of mayhem, which is when a victim is permanently disfigured.
The argument was reported at about 7 p.m. Monday on Throckmorton Avenue in the area of Depot Plaza. Mill Valley police Sgt. Paul Wrapp said York allegedly grabbed the victim's left eyelid in an apparent attempt to remove the eye.
The victim was taken to a hospital and was released after receiving stitches. York was arrested after coming to the police department to give a statement.
The motive for the alleged attack was under investigation. Police described the incident as a family dispute.
York remained in custody Tuesday in lieu of $50,000 bail.
