EL CERRITO -- Lisa Greenstein got an early start as an artist.

"At the age of 5, I began painting with my mother," she says in the artist's statement for her new exhibit in the gallery space at City Hall, 10890 San Pablo Ave. "She painted on her easel and made murals on the walls of our New York City apartment. She would oblige me when I asked for a palette, paint, and brushes, and with her encouragement my lifelong passion for painting and drawing began."

Greenstein went on to study at the California College of Arts and Crafts and has been exhibiting her work since 1978.

Her paintings in recent years have focused on Northern California landscapes.

The community is invited to attend a reception for the new exhibit "Paintings by Lisa Greenstein," featuring works done in the last six years, from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday in the gallery on the second floor of City Hall.
