LIVERMORE -- Sandia National Laboratories announced that Chief Technology Officer Steve Rottler has been tapped as the new vice president of Sandia's lab here, starting Feb. 1.
Rottler, who is vice president of Sandia's Science and Technology Research Foundations Division, replaces Rick Stulen, who is retiring from Sandia after 36 years.
At Livermore, Rottler will head Sandia's Energy, Climate and Infrastructure Security (ECIS) Strategic Management Unit, a division researching energy alternatives.
"I have long known that Sandia's California site is critically important to the Labs' success and that without it, we would be a much different and much weaker institution," Rottler said in an email. "Put more simply, Sandia is enhanced by our presence in California. I am very excited about my new assignment."
Having joined the technical staff at Sandia in 1985, Rottler has previously led nuclear weapon engineering and production activities at the labs.
