SAN JOSE -- The Super Bowl-bound San Francisco 49ers chose a South Bay spot to celebrate last Sunday night, according to the TMZ celebrity news website, arriving at a downtown nightclub hours after their victory in Atlanta.

Star quarterback Colin Kaepernick arrived along with former star quarterback Alex Smith and other players at the Motif nightclub late Sunday, where a 49er victory party was already under way, according to the website..

TMZ reported that a DJ announced the players' names as they walked in the door, spurring an enthusiastic fan reaction from those on the dance floor.

On the Motif website Tuesday, the South First Street club boasted a screen grab from the TMZ site along with the headline "49ers victory bash at Motif featured on TMZ.com." More photos of the event were posted at TMZ.

"We're told the guys were pretty tame," reported TMZ. "No crazy, insane drunk people. Sources say some of the guys WERE drinking (some bottles of Moet and Cristal were ordered) ... but the night was more of a 'sipping and toasting' event."

The site adds that clubgoers apparently glommed onto Kaepernick to the point where he went to a private room upstairs to get away from his zealous fans.

According to the club's website, "Motif is a special place for a perfect night out, partying with friends, corporate affairs, holiday parties or an after conference event space."

It also says clubgoers must adhere to a strict dresscode, with "no hats or headgears" allowed, but judging by the S.F. Champions caps in Sunday's photo slideshow, the rules were loosened a bit for the 49er event.
