San Francisco 49er fans may see this as a furry conspiracy of epic proportions, but a Fremont cat named Mr. Nuts and New Jersey camel named Princess have predicted the Niners will lose Sunday's Super Bowl.

Perhaps it's just a case of all animals together, but Mr. Nuts and Princess are in agreement that the Baltimore Ravens will be hoisting the Lombardi trophy at the end of Super Bowl XLVII.

Try to find solace, Niner fans, with the fact that Princess doesn't have a pristine track record. The camel, who calls Popcorn Park Zoo home, picked the 49ers over the Atlanta Falcons in the National Football Conference championship game, but she picked the Denver Broncos over the Ravens in the American conference game, a prediction that landed with a dull thud.

Mr. Nuts won’t be too popular in the Bay Area. He’s predicted the San Fransisco 49ers will suffer their first Super Bowl loss on Sunday.

Princess uses a graham cracker method to make her predictions. Her trainer writes the names of teams on his hands, then covers them with a cracker. The hand Princess chooses first is the predicted winner.

Sadly, Mr. Nuts, who uses his other end to pick losers, not winners, has an impressive record. He has never yet been wrong.

Mr. Nuts is a black-and-white spokescat for Five Pet Place, a company that specializes in luxury pet products for cats. Mr. Nuts belongs to Five Pet Place owner Michael Ostrofsky and his parents.

The cat's ability to predict outcomes began two years ago when Ostrofsky decided to have him predict the winner of the upcoming Super Bowl featuring the Pittsburgh Steelers and Green Bay Packers.

Ostrofsky set up two identical litter boxes, marking them for the respective teams. Mr. Nuts did his duty in the Steelers' box and Ostrofsky thought that signified a victory. But in scooping Mr. Nuts' forecast, Ostrofsky had an epiphany of his own.

"The first Super Bowl pick was supposed to determine a winner," Ostrofsky says, "but while scooping his box I got to thinking 'You know, there's a pretty obvious message here' and wound up going in the opposite direction."

Although Mr. Nuts lives in a household of Steelers fans, the ugly truth became a smelly certainty when Pittsburgh went down.

The next year, he chose the New England Patriots to lose the Super Bowl to the New York Giants, and he completed a trifecta by casting a ballot in Mitt Romney's presidential box.

He also has predicted that Prince William and Kate will have a prince. That prediction won't be verified until July, when the baby is born.

In the meantime, 49er fans are hopeful that the camel and cat are wrong. Perhaps the Ravens' cracker looked tastier and who can ever tell what cats might be thinking. If only Paul the World Cup-predicting octopus were still alive.
