RICHMOND -- For the first time in several years, the West Contra Costa school district will not be issuing layoff notices to teachers with tenure or in tenure-track positions, according to school board member Todd Groves.
However, 134 temporary teachers are receiving notices this week that their positions may not be renewed for the 2013-14 school year.
Many of these teachers will be brought back, depending on the number of teachers who return from temporary leaves, according to district personnel director Ken Whittemore.
The school board approved the action before its Wednesday night board meeting.
"We're not laying off permanent positions this time, which is beautiful," Groves said.
The district is also notifying 12 administrators that they will have new assignments next year and releasing one administrator.
