SAN PABLO -- Breast cancer survivors will be honored at Doctors Medical Center San Pablo on Wednesday in the inaugural First Day of Spring Survivorship Celebration.

There will be a recognition ceremony, free beauty makeovers donated by local makeup and hair stylists, and free glamour gift bags.

The event, at DMC's J.C. Robinson, M.D. Regional Cancer Center, will honor breast cancer survivors as well as members of their support networks.

"For many who have faced grueling months of cancer treatment, fellowship and support are an important part of the healing process," Dr. Madhu Shetti, medical director for the cancer center's Department of Radiation Oncology, said in a news release. "This event provides an afternoon of inspiration, hope and a little glamour to breast cancer survivors and the people who supported them during one of the toughest experiences of their lives."

Refreshments, center tours and educational resources will be available. The hospital encourages participants to register in advance by calling 510-970-5236.

Doctors Medical Center San Pablo, owned by the West Contra Costa Healthcare District, is a community hospital with the largest emergency department in West Contra Costa County, serving more than 40,000 emergency room patients each year, according to the news release.

The center is accredited by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer, with six commendations, according to the news release.
