OAKLAND -- The sentencing for a man who pleaded guilty to receiving stolen property belonging to an elderly Albany resident has been continued until May 28. Gregory Russell Bammel, aka Paul Russell Campbell, was arrested on the morning of Jan. 27 on Solano Avenue when an Albany police officer found him with various items spread out on the sidewalk. A searched turned up a credit card belonging to an Albany resident.
It was determined that the items on the sidewalk had been taken from the elderly widow's house. Bammel pleaded guilty on Feb. 5 to receiving stolen property. He was to have been sentenced on March 7, but a neighbor of the widow testified that money had also been stolen from the woman's bank account and the sentencing was continued to March 21.
According to the Alameda County District Attorney's website, Bammel's name is actually Paul Russell Campbell. The site lists Gregory Russell Campbell as another alias.
