Albany police log: 'Stolen' car turns out to be borrowed

MONDAY, March 18 AUTO BREAK-IN -- At 1:30 p.m. the rear window of a car was reported smashed and a laptop stolen about an hour prior. THEFT -- Radio Shack on San Pablo Avenue reported at 3 p.m. that a man stole an iPhone cord. WARNING -- At 3:30 p.m. officers issued a warning to a man sitting and drinking alcohol outside Safeway on Solano Avenue. VANDALISM -- At 7:30 p.m. a caller reported seeing two to three males spray painting graffiti on a wall at Albany Ford on San Pablo Avenue. Officers located two people but could not identify them as responsible for the vandalism. They did arrest one, a Berkeley man, for suspicion of being a minor in possession of alcohol. CASE CLOSED -- At 9 p.m. a Kains Avenue resident reported a car stolen from in front of their home. At 8 a.m. the next morning the caller reported her ex-boyfriend had returned her car, now back in front of her home. THEFT -- At 10 p.m. Sugata Restaurant on Solano Avenue reported a man fled without paying for his meal and had left some personal items behind.
TUESDAY, March 19 THEFT -- At 11:30 a.m. Target Store security reported a woman had just run out of the store with her hands full of unpurchased merchandise and fled in a waiting car with a male driver. A license plate check found the vehicle was registered in Richmond and had several San Francisco parking tickets. THEFT -- Keys were reportedly used to steal property from a locker at Public Storage on Pierce Street. UNWELCOME -- At 9:30 p.m. a person was reported sleeping outside the Brittany Arms apartments on Kains Avenue and blocking the entrance. The Berkeley man was arrested for suspicion of disorderly conduct.
WEDNESDAY, March 20 DUI -- Officers stopping a vehicle near the Buchanan Street interchange for a vehicle code violation arrested an Oakland woman for suspicion of DUI. AUTO BREAK-INS -- Cars were burgled and property stolen overnight in the garage of a residence on Cornell Avenue and on the street on Key Route Boulevard and Spokane Avenue. CONFRONTATION -- At 2 p.m. a caller reported that a man described as in his 60s had just keyed the caller's car after an argument over the parking space.
THURSDAY, March 21 DUI -- Officers stopping a vehicle on San Pablo Avenue near Carlson Street at 2 a.m. for a vehicle code violation arrested an El Cerrito woman for suspicion of DUI. SLEEPERS -- At 9:30 p.m. officers responding to the Tay Tah Café on Solano Avenue on reports of two people were sleeping on the sidewalk arrested a Berkeley man, for suspicion of drug possession and an outstanding warrant. THEFT -- At 10 p.m. a red 2012 Specialized Hard Rock 21-speed mountain bike was reported stolen from Albany Middle School on Brighton Avenue. DUI -- At 10:30 p.m. officers stopping a vehicle near Solano Avenue and Jackson Street for a vehicle code violation arrested a Richmond man for suspicion of DUI. DISTURBANCE -- Officers responded to reports of a person who appeared to be intoxicated and was running around in the street and hiding in bushes near homes in the 800 block of Buchanan Street at about 11 p.m. They arrested the transient man from Albany for suspicion of disorderly conduct.
FRIDAY, March 22 ALTERCATION -- At 1 a.m. officers intervened in a family dispute between two brothers and causing a disturbance outside their home. The two men were separated and the matter resolved, at least for the moment. WARRANT -- Officers stopping a bicyclist in the 900 block of Buchanan Street at 2:30 a.m. for a vehicle code violation arrested the rider, a transient man from Albany, for an outstanding warrant. ASSISTANCE -- A man reported in distress at 7 p.m. in the center median near San Pablo and Marin avenues was taken to the hospital. HOME BREAK-IN -- A burglary was reported at a Talbot Avenue residence between 6:30 p.m. and 11 p.m. DISTURBANCE -- At 11:30 p.m. officers responding to reports of a man and a woman who appeared to be intoxicated and arguing in the middle of Jackson Street arrested a San Rafael woman and a transient Albany man for suspicion of disorderly conduct.
SATURDAY, March 23 DUI -- Officers stopping a car in the 700 block of San Pablo Avenue at 1:30 a.m. for a vehicle code violation arrested an Oakland man for suspicion of DUI. VANDALISM -- Vandals broke the front window of Foam Creations on Solano Avenue overnight. ASSAULT -- At 4 p.m. a woman came to the police station to report her husband was making threats and she was fearful. Officers investigated and arrested the Albany man at about 7:30 p.m. for suspicion of assault.
