The guys who once entertained locally as 1950s-'60s musical group Contraband are getting the band back after 25 years together for a fundraising gig this weekend
Contraband will perform at a Chili Cook-off and show fundraiser for diabetes research and support from noon until 9 p.m. at the San Pablo Eagles Hall, 2100 Rivers St.
The band will perform during the cook-off from noon to 4 p.m., then return at 7 p.m. for a nighttime performance and dancing.
Contraband members include Vallejo residents Danny Martinez on drums, and Fred Cavalli, a retired West Contra Costa school district police officer, on lead vocals. Original lead guitar player Buddy Brown is coming in from Wesson, Miss., longtime lead guitar Gunard Soleberg is coming in from Vancouver Wash. Joining them are keyboard player David Tashinian of Pinole, original bass guitar Bob Clingman of Brentwood and guest guitar player Greg "Gig" Edwards from Pinole.
