RICHMOND -- Repurposing potential discards otherwise headed for the landfill as elements of art pieces or crafts is the focus of an Earth Day celebration from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Richmond Art Center: 2540 Barrett Ave.
"Guests will explore and experiment with mixed media sculpture using recycled and salvaged materials, learn about bicycle repair and cycling as a healthy transportation alternative and enjoy educational workshops addressing recycling resources," the center says in an announcement.
A few of the activities at the "maker festival" include hammering and shaping copper leaves, creating mosaic trash bins, screen-printing T-shirts, building musical instruments, designing marionette puppets and making paper hat sculptures.
The family event is free and there will also be complimentary bicycle parking.
