El Cerrito police log: Doors again pried in home burglaries; woman escapes would-be purse snatcher

FRIDAY, APRIL 12 ATTEMPTED THEFT -- At 2:25 p.m., police arrested a woman, 48, and a man, 49, both from Richmond, after the pair had tried to steal items from CVS in El Cerrito Plaza. One of the suspects waved a knife in the direction of a store loss prevention officer when asked to return the merchandise. DUI -- A Vallejo man, 32, was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol after a traffic enforcement stop at Huntington and San Pablo avenues. SHOPLIFTING -- Just after 11:12 a.m., a man got away on an AC Transit bus with liquor he reportedly stole from CVS at El Cerrito Plaza. THEFT FROM RESIDENCE -- A resident in the 3300 block of Belmont Avenue reported that between 2 and 3 a.m. on April 11, someone kicked in the front door while the homeowner was asleep. The victim screamed, scaring the suspect away.
SATURDAY, APRIL 13 ATTEMPTED ROBBERY -- At 11:47 a.m., a man approached a woman who was walking to work in the 10000 block of San Pablo Avenue and demanded her purse. The victim managed to enter her office and called police. DUI -- Police arrested an Emeryville man, 31, for driving under the influence of alcohol at Central and San Pablo avenues. PARAPHERNALIA -- An El Cerrito man, 40, was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia along the BART path near Cutting Boulevard. THEFT -- Someone reportedly stole a purse a woman accidentally left behind at Computer Time in the 11300 block of San Pablo Avenue. THEFT FROM RESIDENCE -- It was reported that in the previous couple of days, someone entered a home in the 6500 block of Knott Avenue through an unlocked door and stole paintbrushes and steel brackets.
SUNDAY, APRIL 14 DRUGS -- Police arrested a woman, 31, and a man with an outstanding warrant, 55, both from Richmond, for possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia following a traffic stop near the 11300 block of San Pablo Avenue. DUI -- A Richmond woman, 26, was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol at Cutting Boulevard and Interstate 80. SHOPLIFTING -- At 12:49 p.m., a loss prevention officer at Safeway in the 11400 block of San Pablo Avenue detained a Vallejo woman, 52, with prior theft related charges, for reportedly stealing more than $200 worth of DVDs. She was taken to county jail. THEFT FROM AUTO -- A Bluetooth device was taken from an unlocked vehicle in the 2600 block of Tamalpais Avenue.
MONDAY, APRIL 15 DUI -- A motorist was arrested on suspicion of being under the influence of a controlled substance at Central and Yosemite avenues. The driver had three prior DUI convictions in the past 10 years and was on probation for a DUI. ROBBERY -- At 1:30 p.m., a Richmond boy, 16, stole a student's phone in a bathroom at El Cerrito High School. The teen attacked and punched the victim when he tried to get his phone back. Officers detained the young suspect and took him to juvenile hall. THEFTS FROM RESIDENCE -- There were four reports of home burglaries and one report of an attempt. Three men pried open the front door of a home in the 2700 block of Del Monte Street and escaped in a silver Chevy sedan. It is undetermined what was stolen. At 11:50 a.m., a man returned home in the 1800 block of Key Boulevard and discovered someone had forced open his door. A male suspect clad in dressy attire was inside and attacked the victim, striking him in the face, before fleeing the residence. Nothing was reported missing. Someone burglarized another home in the 1800 block of Key Boulevard, damaging the front door and stealing jewelry. Someone pried open the rear door, but did not enter a home in the 2600 block of La Honda Avenue. And, someone cut a hole in a metal security gate, pried open the rear door of the main house and the door of a cottage on the property and stole cash, jewelry and purses in the 7200 block of Waldo Avenue.
