A draft environmental report for the West of Hills Northern Pipelines Project has been released by the East Bay Municipal Utilities District and is open for public comment. The project will also be discussed at upcoming meetings scheduled by the water district.

"The project includes four major pipeline segments which are needed to ensure continued reliable water service to customers in North Oakland, Berkeley, Albany, El Cerrito, Richmond, San Pablo, Pinole, Hercules and unincorporated communities of West Contra Costa to Crockett," according to EBMUD.

In all the project involves 8.5 miles of 48- and 36-inch pipelines and is intended "to correct existing deficiencies in water transmission and storage operations, meet future water demands, improve system reliability and water quality challenges, and facilitate repair and replacement of other aging infrastructure."

Written comments on the project are due by 4:30 p.m. July 2 and should be submitted to Timothy McGowan, Associate Civil Engineer, M/S #701, 375 11th St., Oakland, CA 94607-4240, or e-mailed to WOHNP@ebmud.com.
