There are two public meetings remaining to discuss the West of Hills Northern Pipelines Project planned by the East Bay Municipal Utilities District.

The water district, which has released a draft environmental report for the project, says the pipeline is needed "to ensure continued reliable water service to customers in North Oakland, Berkeley, Albany, El Cerrito, Richmond, San Pablo, Pinole, Hercules and unincorporated communities of West Contra Costa to Crockett."

The project involves 8.5 miles of 48- and 36-inch pipelines and is intended "to correct existing deficiencies in water transmission and storage operations, meet future water demands, improve system reliability and water quality challenges, and facilitate repair and replacement of other aging infrastructure," according to the district.

Meetings, both at 6 p.m., will be held June 19 at Maple Hall, 13831 San Pablo Ave. in San Pablo; and June 26 at El Cerrito High School, 540 Ashbury Ave.

The draft EIR is open for public comment through July 2.

Copies of the EIR are available for review at EBMUD offices, 375 11th St. in Oakland; the Berkeley Public Library, 2940 Benvenue Ave.; El Cerrito Library, 6510 Stockton Ave.; San Pablo Library, 2300 El Portal Drive, Suite D; and Richmond Library, 325 Civic Center Plaza.
