The final environmental impact report for the West of Hills Northern Pipelines Project is available for review. The project calls for building 8.5 miles of new 48-inch and 36-inch water transmission pipelines in Berkeley, El Cerrito, Richmond and San Pablo. The East Bay Municipal Utility District is scheduled to consider certifying the report when it meets at 1:15 p.m. Dec. 10 in the EBMUD board room at 375 11th St. in Oakland.
Most of the existing pipeline was installed in the 1930s. The district says the work will " ... correct existing deficiencies in water transmission and storage operations, meet future water demands, improve system reliability and water quality challenges, and facilitate repair and replacement of other aging infrastructure."
Funding for the estimated $65.3 million project is set aside in the district's capital improvements budget.
The final report includes changes and clarifications, as well as comments and responses to the draft EIR released in spring.
