RICHMOND -- Two people were injured by gunfire shortly after noon Thursday in a residential neighborhood near Peres Elementary School.
The victims, a man and a woman, were inside a residence on the 400 block of Pennsylvania Avenue when they were hit by gunfire around 12:35 p.m., said Richmond police Sgt. Mike Rood.
The man was shot in the foot; the woman, in the leg. They were transported to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries, Rood said.
Rood could not say whether the victims were shot from inside or outside the residence. A vehicle believed to be driven by the assailant or assailants was last seen driving north toward North Richmond, Rood said. He described it as a small, blue, compact, older, two-door car from the early 2000s.
Several residents interviewed in the immediate vicinity of the incident around 1:15 p.m. said they had heard at least two gunshots and that they had seen a young man and woman being transported away. They said they had seen at least one ambulance and one fire engine at the scene earlier.
No further information was available late Thursday.
