HERCULES -- A rash of home burglaries has hit a Hercules neighborhood, police said Thursday.
Within three weeks, eight burglaries have been reported in the "Birds," a common reference to the neighborhood because of street names like Oriole, Tanager and Partridge.
The burglaries were at homes off Refugio Valley Road between Pheasant and Falcon drives, according to Hercules police. Four burglaries were reported in the 1800 block of Pheasant Drive;, three were in the 200 block of Starling Way and one was on the 200 block of Boblink Way.
In all cases, the burglar or burglars forced open a front door or garage door and took cash, jewelry and small electronics, police said. All occurred while residents were away between the hours of 6 a.m. and 8:30 p.m.
In two cases, police officers and residents reported seeing a similar looking man fleeing from one of the homes. He is described as a black juvenile, 15 or 16 years old, between 5-foot-6 and 5-foot-9 and about 140 pounds. Police believe this man committed all eight burglaries.
Anyone with information related to the burglaries is asked to call Hercules Police Department at 510-797-8267.
