RICHMOND -- The RYSE Youth Center, located at 41st Street and Macdonald Avenue, is celebrating its five-year anniversary with a Winter Wonderland Party for all ages from noon to 4 p.m. Dec. 14.

"The vision for a new youth center in Richmond grew out of the needs articulated by youth after the tragic killing of four high school students in 2000," noted county Supervisor John Gioia, who helped spearhead the establishment of RYSE. "Young people expressed a need for positive youth activities and after school programming."

At the family friendly celebration, visitors can see the center and get a better idea of what it has to offer, including activities addressing leadership development, academic and career preparation, health and well-being, and arts and culture, including a state-of-the-art media arts studio.

The event will feature food, arts and crafts, tree trimming, and a toy giveaway for children.
