BERKELEY -- The City Council will hold a tribute to Nelson Mandela, the former president of South Africa ho died Dec. 5, at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 17 at Old City Hall, 2134 Martin Luther King Jr. Way.

"Berkeley was seminal in fighting apartheid, the movement to divest from South Africa, and in supporting the release of Nelson Mandela," Mayor Tom Bates wrote in an announcement.

The Vukani Mawethu Choir will perform and speakers will include State Sen. Loni Hancock, former Mayor Gus Newport, and other community leaders.
