A fire at a convenience store in unincorporated El Sobrante this morning has been extinguished and may have been caused by an electrical malfunction, a Contra Costa County Fire Protection District inspector said.

The blaze was reported at 7:02 a.m. at a Food Stop store at 3800 San Pablo Dam Road, Fire Inspector George Laing said.

Firefighters responded and extinguished the fire by 7:38 a.m., Laing said.

The two occupants inside the store at the time of the blaze were able to make it out safely, he said.

The official cause of the fire remains under investigation, but its area of origin is near electrical equipment, Laing said.

There was no estimate yet for how much damage was caused by the blaze, he said.
