SAN PABLO -- A sobriety checkpoint will be held on El Portal Drive from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. Aug. 23, San Pablo police announced.

Drivers coming through the checkpoint will be examined for signs of alcohol and/or drug impairment.

The operation is funded by a grant provided by the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration, the California Office of Traffic Safety and the Safe Transportation Research and Education Center (safetrec.berkeley.edu) at University of California, Berkeley.
