RICHMOND -- One man was shot and critically wounded Thursday afternoon in Richmond, police said.

The 24-year-old Richmond resident was shot multiple times in the upper body about 5 p.m. near Barrett Avenue and Marina Way, police spokesman Sgt. Nicole Abetkov said.

The man was driven two blocks to Kaiser Hospital and later taken by helicopter to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek. He was listed in critical condition, Abetkov said.

After firing about four shots, the shooter ran toward the Hacienda Housing Project, Abetkov said. Police searched the 150-unit, six-floor public housing complex but did not find the shooter. No arrests were immediately made. Police did not release any information about suspects or a possible motive.
